Smith
Dan Smith is an original member of Southern Star Bluegrass helping to
establish the group in 1977. Dan plays mandolin and guitar and sings
baritone with the group. He has made 14 recordings with Southern Star
Bluegrass as well as other bands in Central Florida.
Dan plays a 1983 F5 Master Model mandolin built by John Hutto of
Augusta Georgia. This instrument is built left-handed and was made
especially for Dan by John Hutto Mandolins, Inc. Dan also owns a 2005
Eastman M615 model mandolin. He also plays a 2001 Taylor 710 model guitar. He lives in
Plant City with his wife and two daughters.
Dan has twice been awarded the Florida State Mandolin Champion at the
contest held annually in Auburndale, Florida.
He also enjoys fishing and golf. Dan works for Americare Ambulance Service
where he is their Chief Financial Officer.
