Steve Durrwachter
Steve was born in Saint Louis, Missouri in 1951. He began his music career at the ripe old age of seven. He studied acoustic guitar under the famous steel guitar player Dewit “Scotty” Scott, for seven years. Throughout his high school years he played with various rock and roll bands in the Saint Louis area.
After moving to Lakeland, Florida in 1973 he turned his interest to country music and played with several different local bands.
In 1985 Steve caught the ‘Bluegrass Fever’ and bought a banjo. He took a few lessons from Larry Jackson and James Dockery. His banjo career lasted for two years…then came that fateful day in 1987, at a Durrwachter Family Reunion in Potneck, Tennessee…when his uncle handed him a fiddle and said “take it home and see what you can do with it”.
Now, sixteen years and three Florida Fiddle Championships later, Steve is proud to be a part of the Southern Star Bluegrass. He has had the privilege of studying under Ted Locke and playing with such groups as Gilbert Hancock and Friends, the
Dizzy Rambler Band, and has been the fiddler for Florida Bluegrass Express.
Aside from Bluegrass, Steve uses his talent as rhythm guitar and fiddle player in the praise and worship band at Family Worship Center, in Lakeland.
Steve has been married for thirty-four years. He has two lovely daughters (who occasionally perform with him) and six grand children.
