Southern Star Bluegrass was formed
in 1977 by Dan Smith and Rick Hinson who still manage and operate the band.
Since their formation, Southern Star has performed at bluegrass festivals
and bluegrass shows throughout the southeastern United States. In addition to
their public performances, Southern Star performs on a regular basis at
private parties, company Bar-B-Q's and church functions and services.
Southern Star Bluegrass has had the privilege of performing on shows with
many Country and Bluegrass Stars such as JIM STAFFORD, BIRDIE HIGGINS, BILL
MONROE, JIM AND JESSIE McREYNOLDS, THE WHITES,
WILMA LEE COOPER, CONNIE SMITH, JEANNIE PRUITT, JIMMY C. NEWMAN and LITTLE
JIMMY DICKENS to name a few.
On Friday, October 13, 1995, Southern Star Bluegrass had the honor
and privilege to participate in the 70th Anniversary Bluegrass Spectacular
at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville,
Tennessee.
Following their performance on the Bluegrass
Spectacular, Southern Star was asked to stay and perform at the Friday
night Opry show which is broadcast over the Nationally syndicated WSM radio
network.
Southern Star has performed at many fairs and festivals throughout Florida.
Southern Star has recently completed their 10th year entertaining at
the Florida State Fair's "CRACKER COUNTRY", and their 14th year
with the Florida Strawberry Festival. They have also appeared at the
Blueberry Festival in Ocala, Florida and the Manatee County Fair in Palmetto, Florida.
Southern Star attributes their success and longevity to their
appreciation and adherence to the traditional Bluegrass
style of music.

Southern Star Bluegrass' style of
music and entertainment is tailored to family crowds. Their song selections
provide favorites that are enjoyed by young and old alike.
Southern Star has produced six different cassettes and two CD's. Their
recordings provide a mix of traditional bluegrass songs, instrumentals,
country songs, comedy songs, and southern Gospel tunes.
Whether you like the old standards such as ROCKY TOP, DUELING BANJOS, FOX
ON THE RUN, or prefer to listen to the sacred gospel favorites like AMAZING
GRACE, FAMILY BIBLE or STANDING IN THE NEED OF PRAYER, Southern Star
Bluegrass is sure to provide entertainment and enjoyment for the whole
family.
